A range of species are caught on our fishing trips with over ten species caught regularly and others caught on occasion.

Our regular catches include gurnard, thornback ray, dabs, herring, mackerel, whiting, spurdog, lesser spotted dog fish, bull huss, tope, conger eel, pollock, coley and skate.

Ling, cod, and spotted ray are some of the species we catch less frequently.

Current tally of species caught: 24

Thornback Rays

Thornback rays are a common catch for us.

They’re generally caught on our 4 hour and 8 hour mixed species trips, though also on our whole day skate and ray days.

The biggest to the bait so far is just under 10 lbs.

Dogfish

We catch several species of dogfish regularly. Some people believe them to be a nuisance, however, they never complain if it’s saving a blank 😉

These are also caught on all types of trips although, of course, not guaranteed.

This one, pictured, is a small spotted catshark.

Ling

We occasionally catch ling, having had some good specimens over 10 lbs.

We have caught them mainly on our 8 hour and whole day skate trips

Pictured is 12-year-old Ruaridh with his mum, with his current boat record of 14lb 8oz.

Spotted Rays

We have only caught one of these so far but when they’re on there should be more.

Pictured is Peter who was on a club day with Leachkin Angling Club based in Inverness. This was caught on one of our regular marks.

Cod

We occasionally catch cod/codling. The biggest to the boat thus far was by a club fisherman, Peter, in Loch Eil at 3 lbs.

They’re mainly caught in shallower marks on our 2.5 hour or 4 hour trips. On rare occasions, we catch them on 8 hour trips, if trying get them in the shallow during the summer months.

An occasional catch, definitely not prolific.

We catch these occasionally when drift fishing for bait or while at anchor on mixed species trips. The biggest caught thus far has been about 8 inches long.
